‘Tis the season for giving! That’s why KOMO TV has teamed up with the Salvation Army for our annual Toy Drive, doing what we can to help families in need during the holidays.
But The Salvation Army is working all year long to help others in our region. Our host Gaard Swanson spoke with Lt. Col. Cindy Foley, Salvation Army Divisional Commander of the Northwest Division to learn more.
Lt. Col. Cindy tells Gaard that it’s no coincidence that “Army” is in their name because it takes an army to accomplish all that they do. From running neighborhood food banks to providing shelter and transitional housing, they are working all year to support people in our community. This year alone, they have fed nearly 500,000 people in our region and found permanent housing for 550 individuals in King County alone.
They also run youth centers and day camps, and they provide hot meal delivery for those who can’t get to a food bank. They really do it all!
A lot of these services are funded through The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. It really does take an army, and you can join them through your Red Kettle donation!
