The holiday weekend is here, and so is the sunshine! We kicked off the "unofficial start of summer" with a very summer-like 81 degrees in the Emerald on Friday. However, that will be the warmest day of the stetch...

To our west, a hefty marine layer is growing along the Pacific coast, and it's about to make a beeline for Puget Sound. That murky low cloud deck will ride in on a strong seabreeze overnight, wrapping around the Olympics and filling up the Puget Sound basin by dawn. We'll press some mist and drizzle out of the overcast initially, but will eventually scrub out the gray enough to reveal partly blue skies. However, temps will tumble by about 10 to 15 degrees around the metro area, cooling back into the more seasonable upper 60s in Seattle and Tacoma Saturday afternoon.

For the rest of the holiday weekend, we'll still start with patchy low cloud cover each day, but quicker clearing will boost us into the low 70s Sunday and middle 70s for Memorial Day itself on Monday. Boating will be pleasant enough, but watch for 'small craft advisory' conditions in the north sound and near the coast. Holiday weekend campers in the high country will need to be on the lookout for isolated thunderstorms over the Cascade crest each day. If you're looking for other ways to get out and about and enjoy the best the Northwest has to offer, you might want to check out Fjord Fest in Brinnon for delicious seafood, the Juan De Fuca Festival in Port Angeles for some arts and music along the Strait, or, if you're a Bigfoot believer, head out to Forks for Sasquatch Days near the Washington coast.

We head back to work and school on Tuesday will a bit of a cool down, with highs in the upper 60s for the final few days of May. Overall, it's been a beautiful month in Western Washington!
