Songwriter Harlan Howard is famously quoted for saying, "Country music is three chords and the truth." While an obvious generalization, country music does have a way of getting down to our basic human experiences and emotions, whether it's with three chords or a more complicated musical arrangement.
On Nov. 10 and 11, Maryhill Winery Tasting Room and Bistro in Woodinville brings Nashville to the Pacific Northwest with "Writers & Wine: Songwriting Sessions," featuring singer-songwriters Matt Warren, Wynn Varble, and Dave Pahanish. These successful artists will take the stage and share the stories that inspired some of their favorite songs. Hear the stories behind the tunes in an intimate, acoustic setting. These songwriters have their work recorded and performed by such greats as Garth Brooks, Joe Cocker, Tim McGraw, Gary Allan and Jim Lauderdale.
Nashville-born songwriter Matt Warren headlines the show and connects with the audience by sharing what inspires him to write great songs.
"My music is from the heart," said Warren. "Most of what I write comes from my personal life experiences. I enjoy writing about matters of the heart because, if it's something personal, it makes the writing and singing part come easy. My inspiration comes from different places. Sometimes I'll have a guitar in my hand and a melody just falls out. Or I'll say something that is totally insignificant, but it sparks a melody in my head."
Joining Warren on stage is songwriter Dave Pahanish, a three-time #1 hit Billboard Country songwriter and producer. Pahanish is known for writing such hits as Tobey Keith's "American Ride," Keith Urban’s "Without You," and Tim McGraw's "Right Back Atcha." Urban said he chose to record Pahanish's "Without You" because of how closely he related to the lyrics, saying it was the most autobiographical song he never wrote.
Last but not least, songwriter Wynn Varble completes this trio of songwriters who will perform at Writers and Wine. Varble's first radio single was "Fit To Be Tied Down" by Sammy Kershaw, before going on to write many more hits, including three number ones. His songs are recorded by Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, Lee Ann Womack and many more.
Maryhill Winery is located in Woodinville's historic Hollywood Schoolhouse, which has been restored to its turn-of-the-century grandeur complete with a grand ballroom, antique bar and brick fireplace. It is located at 14810 NE 145th St. in Woodinville.
