This one is not for those with a fear of heights...
The Space Needle, easily one of (if not the) most iconic Seattle landmarks, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In honor of the milestone, a contest is being held where five people will be chosen to paint the roof — yes, that means strapping on a harness, grabbing a paint roller and painting the Space Needle's roof nearly 600 feet in the air.
Built for the 1962 World's Fair, the Space Needle's sloped roof is being returned to its original color, Galaxy Gold — with your help, possibly! Submissions for the Celebrating 60 Contest are being accepted now through April 17, and the five grand prize winners will be selected to paint the roof on April 20-21. All you have to do is share your favorite Space Needle memory through the contest form.
"Getting a chance to paint the roof of the Space Needle is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said Karen Olson, chief operating officer and chief marketing officer at the Space Needle. "Seattleites have come to love the original Galaxy Gold color atop the Space Needle when we mark a big anniversary, and we're thrilled to show off the special paint job to the world for the next 12 months as we celebrate 60 years of defining the Seattle skyline."
Other prizes for the contest include Space Needle tickets, VIP packages to The Loupe Lounge, admission to Chihuly Garden and Glass and more. The team said 60 winners total will be chosen. You can find more information and submit at SpaceNeedle.com/60.
