A glamorous pink and white beauty studio in Mukilteo is celebrating a year of treating local clients to beauty treatments and self-care.
The aesthetic at Claudia's Beauty Studio is "very magical, warm and cozy," describes owner Claudia Rojas.
Her journey into entrepreneurship has been years of hard work, determination and uncertainty at times. Rojas' studio is the cultivation of a long-awaited vision, "This is my first year in business and it hasn’t been easy, but I have support from my family and clients and have always been a go-getter."
A mother to four young children, Rojas was inspired to pursue her dreams in the beauty industry while juggling her duties as a mother, "I was actually a stay-at-home mom for a while, which is the best thing in the world, but I decided I wanted to do something that also has a purpose in life and that I have a passion for."
Born to Mexican immigrant parents, Rojas grew up watching her mother work 2-3 jobs at a time, which left a huge impression on her, "I saw that strong work ethic in my mom. I was always encouraged to be a strong woman and go after my goals no matter what obstacles came in my path."
After becoming a young mom, and working a variety of jobs, Rojas was unsure what path her career would take, "At that time, I didn’t know exactly what I would do with my life. But I knew that I always loved beauty."
Within the past few years, Rojas decided to dive into the beauty industry by putting herself through trainings at various beauty schools around the city, including Maritza’s Beauty College in Lakewood, near Tacoma. At Maritza’s Beauty College, Rojas became an instructor after learning the ropes of microblading and permanent makeup. She is now a certified Master Educator and trainer in a variety of permanent makeup services and has seen much success since branching out on her own.
"I have wonderful clients, and really love what I do," she said. "I love building a bond with them and making other women feel beautiful. My clients travel from all over and are of various ages and backgrounds."
Claudia's Beauty Studio currently offers services in permanent cosmetics and beauty, including microblading, powder brows, lip blush, teeth whitening, lashes, nails and facials. Rojas also hosts networking parties and makeup classes for those looking to learn and perfect the ever-changing makeup trends taught by a professional makeup artist. These classes are held sporadically on weekends and feature a brunch, along with a makeup guide to go along with the class, perfect for a fun ladies' day out.
Rojas also utilizes her extra space to rent out stations to other beauty professionals, such as nail artists or estheticians who want to set up shop and provide their services to clients as well. Trainings are also available at the beauty studio, where Rojas teaches microblading and other permanent makeup specialties. Students who train under Rojas may receive their certifications when they are finished, and Rojas acts as a mentor to students who are looking to break into the industry. Microblading, in particular, has become a popular beauty trend in recent years, which is one of Rojas’ sought-after services. It’s a semi-permanent technique that enhances the shape of the eyebrows by using pigments.
"It’s definitely grown over the years, and styles always change," she said. "You want to make sure to stay up to date with pigments and styles in this industry. I always tell my clients to do something more natural, so what I do is semi-permanent," she explains. "I give clients the option to change things up. With permanent cosmetics back in the day, they did tattoos. Now, it's more a 2–3-hour service after an initial consultation. I recommend different styles depending on skin type. For a more natural look, I recommended microblading and a touch-up after the healing phase," she adds.
Lip Blush is also a popular service at the studio, which gives women a more natural pout and color versus receiving a lip filler, "There’s a lot of advantage of getting semi-permanent cosmetics, especially for busy ladies as it saves them time."
Coming from a bilingual background has its benefits for Rojas as she is able to train in both Spanish and English, "I love being an instructor, and a goal of mine is to open a beauty academy one day and offer trainings in both languages."
She is also a member of the Mukilteo Chamber of Commerce and loves the support from her community, "We are all supportive of each other. I’m also very determined to make it, and want to make the Hispanic community proud."
Rojas loves supporting other women and has some pearls of wisdom for aspiring entrepreneurs, "Some advice I would give is to never quit or give up on your goals. I encourage others to fulfill their dreams, and to keep going no matter how hard things may seem. I’m also really thankful and super blessed, and excited for what the future has for me."
Claudia’s Beauty Studio is open by appointment only, located at 611 5th St, Suite C, Mukilteo, WA.
