The Great Outdoors, Okanagan Style

As part of our deep dive into the Napa of the North, BC’s Okanagan Valley, we’re checking out all the things to do in Osoyoos. Today, four fun things for the outdoorsy.

Summer vacation calls for taking in the nice weather while we have it, and Osoyoos has it in spades. We’ve pinpointed the four best things to do outdoors while you’re in the area – you know, besides visiting wineries.

Horses

Indian Grove Riding Stables, located right on the shores of Osoyoos Lae, offers half- and full-day trail rides in the desert. No need to have any experience, but you’ll absolutely need a hat, some water, and some sunscreen – it gets hot.

Golfing

Sonora Dunes Golf Course is petite but mighty. Those nine holes are nestled right against Anarchist Mountain, which makes for a few you won’t believe. It’s literally across the patio from Spirit Ridge Resort, so it’s easy to take in a few holes then take a pause for a swim, nap, or spa treatment.

Swimming

Lake Osoyoos is right there, and it’s gorgeous. Situated in the Okanagan Valley’s microclimate, it’s one of Canada’s warmest lakes, and a short half-mile hike from the vineyard at Nk’Mip and Spirit Ridge Resort. Prefer something a little closer (and warmer)? The resort itself has two pools for guests – one for adults and one for families. Both are lovely, and the family pool is the perfect spot from which to admire Smoker Marchand’s incredible work throughout the resort.

Farming

Hear me out. Covert Family Farms is the best. It’s a big working farm in the hard of the Okanagan Valley, and it has U-Pick-Em strawberries, freshly-hatched chicks to ooh and ah at, and its own winery. The tours are highly recommended – hop on the back of a vintage Mercury truck and see how a working farm, well, works.
