Neighborly Neighborhood Advice: Ballard

Ballard. A fabulous Seattle neighborhood with lots of personality...but also a bit of a pain to get to, many Seattleites like myself will complain. It's worth the trek, however: Ballard is not lacking in great restaurants.

For your next staycation, why not plan lunch and dinner at some of the Ballard restaurants that local Seattleites recommend? You can even fit a movie at the Majestic Bay Theatre or a trip to the beach at Golden Gardens between your dining adventures.

In a recent poll on Facebook, I received suggestions of over 40 great Ballard restaurants from over 30 locals. You can peruse the full list, (and add your own).

The restaurants with top mentions include:

Bitterroot: Great Northwest BBQ joint.

"Comfy space with unpretentious decor. And I have never eaten or drank anything I did not like there. Pork Nachos and a vanilla old fashioned are my favorite things to order. Oh and the hush puppies!" - Rachael B.

"Awesome BBQ." - Ashley B.

Ballard Annex Oyster House. Get your seafood on.

"One of my favorite restaurants. I have liked everything I've tried there." - Elizabeth W.

"Get the East vs West crab cake appetizer. So. Good." - Taryn D.

"They have the best bartender in the universe." - Gloria H.

Staple and Fancy: Ethan Stowell's popular Italian-inspired restaurant. Choose from the a la carte "Staple" menu or Chef's Choice "Fancy" menu.

"The fancy menu at Staple & Fancy is one of the best swanky deals in town." - Jill L.

"For a more special date night." - Alyson A.

"Let them take care of everything with the "do it fancy" option." - Nina R.

Señor Moose: No relation to Señor Frogs.

"Yeah, ignore the name: Señor Moose is great." - Brian A.

"Love Señor Moose for breakfast! Their plantains with cream, sopes con huevos and basically everything on the brunch menu is delicious!" - Laura M.
