Let's Go Places: Tailgate with the RUFFest dawgs in town

Football can’t begin without a proper kick-off. And on game day at Husky Stadium, a tailgate full of burgers, beverages, and cornhole is the only way to avoid dropping the ball.

Sure, there are plenty of places to eat near the University of Washington’s campus. But there’s nothing better than spending a day outside with friends, family, and that one alum who won’t admit that college is over (c’mon, we can all name THAT guy).

So, grab the grill, throw on your purple and gold, and join us for one epic tailgate. And hey, you’re going to need a car to park at The Zone. Why not check out the brand-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback? It holds all your tailgating equipment. Load it up, pull into your favorite spot, pop the back and you have the perfect tailgate set-up! Rumor has it; this ride is the leader of the pack.

Sporty design

While small in size, the Corolla Hatchback (available in either SE or XSE grade) makes a big impression. Its form is distinct, dynamic, muscular, and sophisticated with a wider front and rear track and longer base than its predecessor, the Corolla iM.

An all-new platform helps you wring even more excitement around every corner. The Corolla Hatchback is close to the ground, keeping its center of gravity low for improved responsiveness and stability in the turns.

Beyond the shape, the vehicle rocks a many stylish exterior touches including available 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome grille, and tailpipe diffusers, and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Don’t worry, the dash and doors match the artistry under the hood. The Corolla Hatchback is lined with premium piano-black accents, soft-touch materials and leather-trimmed sport seats, and contrast stitching on the dash and doors.

Speed and power

With its 2.0-liter four-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine, drivers are reintroduced to the thrill of being behind the wheel. The engine is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, benefitting overall balance, and quieter for Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH).

What’s more, the Hatchback’s available six-speed intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) features close-ratio gears down low for spirited acceleration, with taller gears up top for optimized fuel economy while cruising. It also incorporates an intelligent rev-matching feature, helping reduce transmission shock when downshifting.

Comfort and style

Adding to the driver-centric interior, the vehicle comes equipped with a standard high-resolution 8-inch multimedia touchscreen, providing access to vehicle settings, audio controls, navigation, smartphone apps, and more.

Drivers can also enjoy Amazon Alexa connectivity for instant access to the music, news or weather, as well as Apple CarPlay, over eight speakers and available Entune 3.0 Premium Audio with JBL w/Clari-Fi. Other tech features include its Smart Key System, which lets drivers unlock the doors or trunk and start the engine with a push of a button, as well as Remote Connect to control the vehicle from Apple Watch or Android smartwatch.

Passengers can expect to be equally satisfied, as the Corolla Hatchback does not compromise on comfort. Its premium features include available leather-trimmed seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and available heated seats. It sports five doors and can seat up to five passengers with 60/40 split fold-down rear seats with a center armrest and cupholders.

Safety first

Like all Toyota vehicles, the Corolla Hatchback prioritizes safety. It offers innovative, intelligent technology including the available Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS). Each vehicle is built with Toyota’s Star Safety System, which is designed to enhance traction, braking, and more.

It also has the latest version of Toyota’s suite of standard safety features, (TSS 2.0) Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 which includes Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection, Automatic High Beams (AHB), Road Sign Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). Not every car provides this level of safety, just every Toyota.

The 2019 Corolla Hatchback SE starts at an MSRP of $19,990. The XSE CVT (shown here) starts at an MSRP of $24,090.
