Charleston vs. Seattle: Coffee

On a recent trip to Charleston SC, we were tasked with exploring the city, restaurants, activity centers and views to put into a half-hour TV show. Tough life right? Well actually, it really is - because we could go on and on about the things we saw for much longer than 30 minutes. Soooo we are going to do a quick Charleston Spotlight every week to highlight some of the places we saw! This week, it's all COFFEE. Obviously, we are biased towards Seattle coffee, but Charleston had some great spots as well.

The Rise is an awesome little coffee shop located in The Restoration a boutique hotel in downtown Charleston. The Rise offers Toby’s Estate, a small batch roaster with roasting plants in Brooklyn and single origins blends from exotic locations like Kenya, Guatemala, Brazil and El Salvador. If you are looking to grab a drink The Watch is an awesome rooftop bar located at the hotel where you can grab a bite to eat over cocktails.

Seattle knows something about hip coffee shops and Kudu Coffee and Craft Beer in Charleston definitely is a hip coffee shop. The cafe offers a courtyard patio and live music on weekends with plenty of seating to camp out and get some work done. They also offer craft beer to complete the hipster coffee vibe.

Maybe our favorite coffee shop in Charleston, this minimalistic hip little coffee shop, Black Tap Coffee, gave us serious Seattle vibes. Located in Charleston's historic Harleston Village neighborhood, the shop features custom-built tables made from heart pine wood used in the construction of Charleston’s oldest buildings, a stand-up bar with wrought iron stools, and a few black-and-white family photographs.

What is Mercantile and Mash not? The spot features a sprawling setup combining grocery, whiskey bar, coffee, wine & butcher shops, plus dining and games, but we stopped by for just the coffee... this time. With a full case of in-house baked pastries, great espresso and plenty of seating this is a perfect place to check out.
