Please correct me if I’m wrong, but – when you think of Tukwila you don’t necessarily think of luxury living, right? Me neither.
So considered me tickled when I was invited out for the grand opening and an overnight stay at Tukwila’s newest hotel, Hotel Interurban.
Although there were several parts of the hotel and my stay that I enjoyed (I love me some time away from my homestead) the greatest aspect was that it felt like a true getaway. Hotel Interurban is a quick trip south of Seattle and it seems like you can’t stay downtown anymore without breaking the freakin’ bank.
Before I took my trip down south, I did some digging and learned that the hotel has a very special employee. Her name is Hazel and she is the hotel's robot.
Yeah, you heard me. Robot.
Hazel is on shift 24/7 and roams around the lobby of the hotel, greets the guests – she even sometimes will tell a joke or two but she her main purpose is to deliver items to guests in their rooms. Freakin' science, man.
When I was a young and sprightly college student, I worked in a boutique hotel and about three days out of the week I would work the evening shift before the night auditor came in. Not only did I have to man the front desk, but I was also the person that had to run toiletries to guests, unclog some toilets and help some guests make their beds - you name it I did it.
BUT! Hazel the robot is revolutionizing hotel helpers.
Lets say you want a bottle of wine from the restaurant. You can call down to the front desk and the receptionist will call for Hazel. Hazel will then go over to the restaurant where she will request your bottle of wine. After an employee at the restaurant puts a bottle of wine in Hazel, Hazel can then call for her own elevator where it will take her up to your floor, find your door, and alert you that she is there with your fun juice! I've said it before and I'll say it again - SCIENCE!
Other amenities include a pool, a clean and ample gym, coffee shop, and a rooftop event space and patio to enjoy views of Mt. Rainier. I cannot write this piece without touching on the beautiful and ~delish~ meals I had at their on site restaurant, the Waterleaf.
I was able to eat dinner and breakfast at the Waterleaf and both were outstanding. For dinner I got the Grilled Steak Salad, and while I'm not the biggest fan of steak, this steak was so AMAZING that was definitely a happy cow.
I’m more of a breakfast person so by the time my 9 a.m. breakfast reservation rolled around I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to try their breakfast. My lovely server Molly suggested the breakfast burrito and the banana pancakes but I am a complete sucker for an omelet so I ordered the “Omelet My Way".
I have to say I have had some pretty good omelets in my day because, well, I'm a fiend. This omelet didn't look like anything super special but the taste was absolutely off the charts and I was transported to flavor town!
All in all, Hotel Interurban was truly a lovely new property and I would recommend it for a staycation! Say hi to Hazel for me.
