A historical staycation at the Sorrento Hotel

Love the idea of traveling back in time? If so, the historic Sorrento Hotel is the place for your next staycation. Open since 1909, this Seattle icon offers European inspired guest rooms that still feature original architecture and no two are alike.

You'll notice the Do Not Disturb signs are in Italian, just one of the many fun details of this hotel. In the lobby, wait a moment before calling the elevator so you can check out the Thanksgiving Day menus from the 1920s (two dollars a person, one menu features unique menu offerings such as Clear Green Turtle Soup).

During prohibition, the hotel operated a speakeasy (the door is still visible from the outside, although currently boarded up). Today, the Sorrento offers a special Urban Distillery Tour package. Why not don your best Great Gatsby inspired cocktail dress and make a night of it?

This new package, which includes valet parking, a night stay and breakfast for two, will introduce you to some of Seattle's most unique distilleries. Their Mercedes Benz Sprinter will whisk you around town for a two and a half hour tour where you'll be able to taste and learn more about local vodkas, gins, whiskeys and more. Learn more about the process of creating batches while you talk to distillery staff for a real behind-the-scenes look into the local world of liquor.

The Sorrento offers many events throughout the year in their luscious Fireside Room. These "Sorrento Nights" are open to both guests and the public:

Silent Reading Nights happen the first Wednesdays of every month between 6pm and 9pm - grab a book and find a seat! Guests even write your happy hour priced order down for your waiter to keep this event truly silent! For those looking to chat after, swing by their adjoining bar after the event to meet other readers and talk about books over cocktails.

Live Music Nights happen throughout the month (take a peek at upcoming performances on the Sorrento Nights calendar, here). These free nights include musical offerings such as Bossa Nova, "Sultry Pop," and Jazz.
