Wedding Tips from the Fairmont Olympic

Looking for tips on how to plan the perfect, romantic wedding?

In this segment, Whitney Keyes heads to the luxurious, Fairmont Olympic Hotel in downtown Seattle to get some advice from Andrew Hoge, the hotels' head wedding designer.

The hotel opened back in 1924 and is one of the city's most elegant landmarks. So it's no surprise that when it comes time for lovebirds to tie the knot, the Fairmont is a top choice for couples around the world.

Tip #1: Start your wedding planning early

According to Andrew, you want to give yourself at least a year. That way, you'll get the vendors you want who will make your wedding extra special. Many top vendors book out at least six months in advance so be sure to give yourselves enough lead-time.

Tip #2: Consider using a wedding designer for fresh ideas

Andrew recommends starting with your own ideas, inspiration and pictures by collecting them in one place using a tool like a Pinterest board. Once you have a sense of the type of wedding you want, he says it is important to explore all of the possibilities with a wedding expert. Keep an open mind, listen to their perspectives and keep the communication going to create a truly one-of-a-kind wedding experience for you and your guests.

Tip #3: Pay attention to the hot trends

On your special day, your friends and family are all coming together, sometimes from far away places, to see you and share in the experience of your special day. One trend Andrew is noticing is something he calls "hyper-personalization" or extra attention on the little details that can make a big impact on the overall wedding experience for the couple and their guests. For example, Andrew is seeing a lot of multi-cultural weddings where everything from the food to the flowers to the music is carefully customized and curated to reflect the most intimate, personal tastes of the couple to ensure everyone leaves feeling like they got to know the couple even more and will never have the exact experience at another wedding.
