Take your pick of ultimate experiences in Seattle Southside

The final stretch of summer is here, but that doesn't mean it's too late for adventure! Just a few minutes from downtown Seattle, there are plenty of ultimate experiences that will make you feel like you're on vacation—without leaving King county. Seattle Southside is home to cooking schools, museums, and an indoor skydiving center—all designed to keep the carefree feeling of summer fun around all year long.

Seattle BBQ & Grilling School

It's not often that you use the words "school" and "fun" in the same sentence. But, if you like good barbecue, then Seattle BBQ & Grilling school is the place to learn. Whether you're hoping to up your grilling game, utilize that new smoker sitting on your back deck, or be the go-to person on your street for drool-worthy food, the six hour "Smoking and Grilling" class has you covered. From pulled pork to buffalo wings to sweet potatoes and stuffed peppers, the food you get to eat is worth the cost of the class alone! They also offer special classes, usually three to four hours in length, that focus on anything from surf and turf to steaks and tailgate eats (hint: the tailgate class includes a lot of bacon). Grab your friends and your favorite beverage, and enjoy an afternoon of learning (and eating!).

The Museum of Flight

If you live in "Jet City" and you've never been to The Museum of Flight, you're missing out! See why Seattle deserves this nickname at the largest independent, non-profit air and space museum in the world.

General admission will get you access to permanent and featured exhibits, transporting you through aviation and spaceflight history. The Aviation Pavilion, a covered, outdoor gallery features jet fighters, big bombers, some of the first commercial airliners, and even the first jet Air Force One. You can also opt to amplify your museum visit with one of their unique experiences, like flight simulators, Boeing Field tours, or 3-D movies. Check out the Museum of Flight website to plan your visit.

iFLY Indoor Skydiving

Speaking of flight simulators, Seattle's ultimate body flight experience is located in, you guessed it, Seattle Southside. iFLY, an indoor flying center, will take you to new heights as you soar in their simulated skydiving tunnel. Feel the rush of the air as you learn to twist and tilt your way through the powerful current.

Do you have little ones keen on learning how to fly? Check out the Flight School, an exhilarating group training program for youth ages four to sixteen to experience the power of flight. Have a party coming up? iFLY is a thrilling and unexpected venue to hold your next birthday party or corporate event.

Olde Thyme Aviation

An actual trip to the clouds can only match the rush of simulated skydiving, and the folks at Old Thyme Aviation have just the thing for adventure seekers and history buffs. Take a spin on a restored vintage biplane and view the sites of the city from an angle you've never seen before. They have open-cockpit planes available for those who like the wind on their face, and several flight paths for you to choose. Cruise the Lake Washington shoreline, fly over the Ballard locks, or soar through SeaTac's "Class Bravo" airspace over West Seattle at a surprisingly low altitude. All flights take off from and return to Boeing Field, and run anywhere from 20 minutes to more than an hour.
