If you loved the first Deadpool, then you won't be dissapointed with the sequel. Deadpool 2 is more of the same thing...and that's mostly a good thing. Ryan Reynolds is back as the foul-mouthed marvel anti-hero and this time around he takes on a bad guy named Cable who's traveled back in time to kill a young mutant boy. It sounds pretty serious...but it's not. The franchise breaks the fourth wall so much it practically shatters it and Reynolds delivers every raunchy punchline or sarcastic commentary with just the right amount of humor and venom. Not all the jokes land but enough of them do and if you're easily offended...well too bad. Word to the wise don't blink or you might miss one of the many celebrity cameos-and don't leave the theater until all the credits roll.
Book Club is a double entendre laden mess...that expects us to believe that four intelligent older women A, have no taste in literature and B, are so impressionable that even thinking about sex transforms them into chardonnay guzzling boy crazy teenage girls. The stellar cast led by Fonda, Diane Keaton and Candice Bergen try their best to breathe life into these one dimensional characters...but its mostly a lost cause. I've read tea leaves that had better plots. I really wanted to like book club, and there are a few bright spots, but I mostly felt bad for the talented cast.
