Now here's a Seattle artist who is living the creative dream! Katie Marks has managed to turn her passion into profit - and she can barely keep up with demand.
Her small business on Etsy, Silver Lining Ceramics, is exploding on social media. People are freaking out over her shiny artwork that includes unicorn pipes and shiny, gold mugs, some even geologically-inspired!
To say business is good would be an understatement.
"I ship pieces to England, Canada, Australia, Russia, Vietnam and Japan. Its crazy!" Marks said, "But no pre-orders! If I put out a waitlist right now, I think I would be making unicorn pipes for the rest of the year without any sign of it slowing down and I don't want to do that."
If you want one of her pieces, you have to be on alert! When she posts inventory on her Etsy page, it usually sells out within minutes and a REMINDER...she doesn't do pre-orders!
Marks even got the attention of former Star Trek star George Takei who shared her products on Facebook.
"I woke up and my phone had 900 notifications," she said! "And I was like 'What happened while I was sleeping!?'"
In the span of three days, Marks got 12,000 new followers and made 101 pieces that all sold out in less than five minutes.
"I'm so shocked!" she said. "I wake up every morning and say pinch me, do I really get to play with clay all day?"
