*Each day this week we are going to be featuring homes from the 2017 Seattle Modern Home tour, happening this weekend throughout Seattle. Eight houses will be showcased, all accessible from ticket-holders between 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Tickets are still on sale, starting at $35.
This 100-year-old home was in need of a facelift. The home, located in the Roanoke Park neighborhood, was modernized for a "sophisticated and stylish" family with two young boys. At the time of purchase, although there was much to admire, the craftsman needed a refresher.
Cue, Best Practice Architecture & Design who came in and updated the home with a more modern layout, finishes, and decor. They approached the remodel by tipping their hats to the original character and craftsman detail, but wanted to incorporate the clean and simple details that make modern homes so luxurious.
After knocking down a few walls, the home was left with a completely updated kitchen, including new cabinets and a new central island. They did preserve a glass atrium that keeps the space bright with natural light.
Other updated features included an unused storage cabinet transforming into a hidden reading nook, a redesigned master bedroom, two new bedrooms with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, a new sunny home office, and a guest suite in the unused basement.
