World's last Blockbuster in Bend, OR turning to an Airbnb for three nights only

Maaaaan - Deschutes County, OR residents get ALL the fun!

The owner of the last Blockbuster in the world (located in Bend, OR) just announced that for three nights only she's listing the entire store on Airbnb for the epic sleepover of your dreams.

"As the last standing location in the world, our BLOCKBUSTER store is an ode to movie magic, simpler times and the sense of community that could once be found in BLOCKBUSTER locations around the world," said Sandi Harding in her posting on the vacation rental site. "Over the past few months, we’ve been missing the regular visits from friends, neighbors and tourists from around the world. So, we’re opening our store to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night, just like those of decades past!"

The three single night stays will be September 18, 19 and 20. Up to four people can attend each night, and they must be quarantined pods of Deschutes County guests - for safety's sake.

The listing will be available to book starting promptly on August 17 at 1 p.m. PST. Guessing that all three slots will go QUICKLY!

Guests will have the entire store to themselves from check-in to check-out, complete with a pull-out couch, bean bag chairs and pillows to truly get you in the 90s vibe.

"Crack open a two-liter of Pepsi before locking into a video game, charting your future in a game of MASH, or watching movie after movie," said Harding. "But be wary of reciting 'Bloody Mary' in the staff bathroom off of the break room, as you just may summon the ghost rumored to haunt the store. And help yourself to some NERDS, Raisinets and popcorn (heavy on the butter), but make sure you save room for a couple slices."

If you're not one of the guests to win one of the lucky nights stay, the store is also going to keep their "living room space" set up for a couple days for customers to come check out during store hours.

Everything in the store will be cleaned in in accordance to Airbnb's Enhanced Cleaning Protocol which is informed by recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They'll also provide face coverings, disinfectant wipes and of course, hand sanitizer.

If you're not a resident of Deschutes and neither of these options are available to you (we're raising our hands too), you can always call the store for their Callgorithm. What, pray tell, is a Callgorithm? Call the store at 541-385-9111, tell a REAL LIVE HUMAN on the other end of your likes and dislikes, and they'll give you some tailored recommendations for what to watch. You could also always get some swag from their online store, and rep from afar...

Not the same, we know - but we'll take what we can get!

"Our BLOCKBUSTER store is open because of the incredible local community in Bend, and we’ve been grateful to have the support of those beyond our town as the coronavirus pandemic has impacted our business," said Harding. "To celebrate and pay it forward in this tradition of support, Airbnb will make a donation to the Humane Society of Central Oregon, a longtime partner of ours."

Congrats in advance to the winners (and their lucky friends) who get to experience the ultimate 90s throwback sleepover night!
