For some, February 14th is reserved for a romantic Valentine’s Day date night, but for shabby chic, farmhouse, industrial, and vintage lovers, the 14th and 15th of this year are reserved for The Great Junk Hunt!
What kind of hunt, you ask?
The hunt of a lifetime!
At least for home decor folk.
An annual flea market of sorts, The Great Junk Hunt sets up shop along the West Coast each spring. Voted top traveling vintage market in the USA by Flea Market Style magazine, it can’t be missed! This year, The Great Junk Hunt will land in Washington in both February and April. First up, the February event which is hosted at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. With 50,000 square feet of vendors, you will no doubt stumble across a treasure while browsing, sipping cocktails, and swaying to live music. Then, in April, The Great Junk Hunt moves into 60,000 square feet at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup.
Alayna Garner, who attended the hunt last year observed that, “Everyone was in their happy place”. And rightly so, everything at The Great Junk Hunt is one-of-a-kind, a true treasure. “There are plenty of unique pieces, variety in style, and good deals,” Garner expanded - basically, something for everyone!
Early bird shopping starts Friday, evening from 6-9 p.m., if you pre-purchase an early bird ticket ($20) you get in even earlier at 5:30 p.m. Well worth it according to Kjersti Engelbrecht who says that it’s best to go early if you intend to nab exactly the piece you’ve been dreaming of. A second early bird session happens on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. ($15). The general session is Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. ($8). Tickets are available here.
Although kids 12 and under are free, this event is a hoppin’ one! You may want to leave littles at home and tote their wagon along to carry your purchases. Engelbrecht usually attends with girlfriends and shares, “When you see a special piece you like, grab it! If you walk away and second guess yourself it will most likely gone”. Note taken, no second guessing! When your heartbeat skips a beat, don’t delay!
Founder, Linda Albers, says in this video that she loves watching “the happy junkers” as they explore the market and find uses for the treasures they see. It truly is amazing to see an empty space transform into a junk market of thousands. And the smiles! You know The Great Junk Hunt is all about having a good time.
If you are looking for seasonal decor, uplifting signs, handmade goods, or a one-of-a-kind vintage piece for your living room shelves look no further than The Great Junk Hunt! Just the same, if a girl’s night out simply browsing with a cocktail in hand is your jam, this market is for you!
Attend one market or both! Between the February and April events the Northwest will be brimming with great junk for quite some time!
