The crime of the century becomes the sleeper film of the summer

They say it's one of the most daring art heists in U.S. history.

Four college students, searching for something missing in their lives make a dumb decision to try and steal some of the rarest books in the world from a local university.

Director Bart Layton making his fictional feature debut weaves the real thieves throughout the movie "American Animals" giving testimony to the rip-off.

Layton who was inspired by the original culprits by interviewing them in prison, can't believe these middleclass guys actually tried to pull off the crime of the century..
