Longtime local residents have told me that the "official" Seattle summer starts on July 5th, so now we can celebrate. Summer has arrived!
One of my favorite things to do in Seattle year-round is visiting the Olympic Sculpture Park. It's a place that is always on the must-see list that I give to friends and family who travel to our amazing city. In the summer, it's even more special because the Seattle Art Museum hosts fun free events in July and August.
SAM's summer season kicks off tonight, July 10th at 6 pm. Bring your friends and family and experience the Afro-Latino jazz sounds of Picoso, an art activity with Elizabeth Humphrey based on the artists of SAM's Modernism in the Pacific Northwest exhibition, a mini-yoga session while gazing up at Alexander Calder's The Eagle, and so much more. Taste will be serving wine and dinner, and some of our favorite local food trucks (Fusion on the Run, Where Ya At Matt, and Evolution Revolution) will have your dining needs covered.
If you can't make it to opening night, that's okay. Activities like art workshops, public tours, Zumba and yoga classes, and music will be happening every Thursday and Saturday until August 28th. Here are a few coming up that you won't want to miss.
- Thursday, July 24th, 6-9 pm: "InterAction" art activity with artist Kimberly Trowbridge and writer Caleb Thompson. Create your own collages inspired by SAM's Modernism in the Pacific Northwest exhibition.
- Thursday, August 14th, 7-8:30 pm: Seattle Shakespeare Company: Romeo and Juliet
- Every Saturday from July 12thAugust 23rd, 10:30-11:30 am: Free yoga in the park with instructors from 8 Limbs Yoga. Bring your own mat, water, and anything else you need.
