We don't like to toot our own horns too much....but we're just reporting the facts on this one! Seattle leads the pack for the second year in a row as Amazon's #1 Most Well-Read City in America.
Just outstanding - well done people. According to the local company (bias couldn't be playing into this study, right?) Seattle has the most purchases of all books, magazines and newspapers in both Kindle and print formats. Don't get us wrong, we think there might be a little more to being "well-read" than downloading US Weekly subscriptions, but it's a good place to start :)
Here's Amazon's entire list:
- Seattle, Wash.
- Portland, Ore.
- Washington, D.C.
- San Francisco, Calif.
- Austin, Texas
- Las Vegas, Nev.
- Tucson, Ariz.
- Denver, Colo.
- Albuquerque, N.M.
- San Diego, Calif.
- Baltimore, Md.
- Charlotte, N.C.
- Louisville, Ky.
- San Jose, Calif.
- Houston, Texas
- Nashville, Tenn.
- Chicago, Ill.
- Indianapolis, Ind.
- Dallas, Texas
- San Antonio, Texas
Some other interesting bits and bobs from the study:
- The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins was the top-selling Kindle and print title in five of the top 10 cities: Portland, Austin, Tucson, Albuquerque, and San Diego (I read that one, and highly recommend).
- Readers in four of the top 10 cities got their stuff together with The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing as the most sold print title in Seattle, San Francisco, Tucson, and Albuquerque.
- 50 Shades of Grey was the highest downloaded book in Las Vegas, Nevada. Somehow, I am not shocked.
I say we read more books and keep our champion reign for next year. Happy reading, folks!
