Soap Set Secrets: As told by the casting director of General Hospital...

When we recently visited the General Hospital set in L.A., we came back with some pretty cool stuff. We got behind-the-scenes VIP access to the cast and crew. But, it was the Casting Director who really gave us the juiciest secrets.

Mark Teschner is an Emmy-Award winning casting director and he has a pretty big job. Choosing the right actor for the right part and believe it or not, he's passed up some people before they were famous.

"I tell actors 'You may not get the role but it may be the best thing that ever happened to you,' Teschner said. "In the mid 80's, I was casting a soap called "Loving" and the actors who auditioned who were not casted were Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Paul Walker, Marcia Gay Harden and Gina Gershon."

General Hospital has also seen it's fair share of celebrity guest appearances. Elizabeth Taylor, Roseanne Barr and James Franco all appeared on the soap.

"When James Franco appeared on the show, that was an idea hatched by the producers and the writers and it was something he was looking for," he said. "He came to us and he was looking to appear on a soap. The actors who come for a few episodes say they've had more fun than any other gig they've had because its really fun."

We also got some great stuff with Executive Producer and the wardrobe department. Watch the clip for more.
