Award-winning food blogger (known for her chocolate chip cookies) sets up shop in Ballard

Not Without Salt Food Blogger, Ashley Rodriguez is slowing building a empire. Her newest addition is a “Not Without Salt” retail and community space in Ballard, scheduled to open in early November.

Rodriguez started her business in 2009 with an award-winning blog where she shared her cooking talents. The former pastry chef quickly grabbed the hearts of millions with her now famous chocolate chip cookie recipe. Then a few years ago, she began selling cookie kits before adding salts to her online store’s inventory. In between all that, she wrote, “Date Night In” which showcases a collection of recipes curated to create an intimate evening at home in the midst of everyday life, marriage and kids along with stories about her husband, marriage and family.

This year, she started looking for a new project. She missed the community from the early days of food blogging and wanted to build upon her Seattle community.

“Gathering at the table is one of the best things we can do,” said Rodriguez about growing a community.

Rodriguez longed for a community space that could be used for classes, private events, cooking classes and also a physical location to sell the cookie kits and salts. She found the perfect location in Ballard off NW 65th Avenue and 3rd Avenue NW with a quirky space and a few spaces for parking. The area is mainly residential with a few nearby restaurants and shops.

The Not Without Salt retail location in addition to selling Not Without Salt products will also sell a few of Rodriguez’s favorite things such as Opinel knives, aprons and wooden utensils. They also plan to host intimate lifestyle workshops within the 500 square foot space.

Rodriguez has also been busy at work on a new book which is expected to come out in Fall, 2018.
