“Mom” is almost always the final person on my Christmas shopping list. As they say, save the best for last! Or, possibly because she takes the most thought and preparation when it comes to gift-giving. I love her dearly, but she can be so hard to buy for!
My mama tends to buy what she needs and wants throughout the year. And I get it, she’s not holding her breath for someone to surprise her. But I want too! I want to show my appreciation, especially during the holidays when she does so much to make this time of year magical. Come December, I try to prod her for a few ideas and she almost always replies, "Oh, I don't need anything...just your love!"
Ok, ok check! You’ve got it! But what else? What can I wrap for you?!?
Over the years I’ve come to realize that it’s less about what I spend (although, REALLY nice things are always a surprise!) and more about the thought behind what I give. I think that rings true for most moms out there - they truly appreciate a thoughtful gift.
So, as you gather ideas for your own mama or the extra special mom figure in your life, perhaps one of these would be a good fit! In fact, when I ran these gift options by my mom she assured me I’d lock in favorite child status for the next year with any of them.
This cardigan is the most versatile one on the market. With yoga pants, a dress at the office, or jeans it’s the perfect layering piece. Oh so soft too!
Cheers to mama! Pair this darling mug with homemade hot buttered rum mix, a special K-cup flavor (this one is really good!), or this delicious chai tea powder. And, to play up the wildflower theme add Katie Daisy’s The Wildflower’s Workbook ($15).
Create a little book bundle with this popular new cookbook, a good novel, and a gorgeous book end like the Alabaster Stone Bookend ($39) from West Elm. For novels, I highly recommend one of Kristin Hannah’s books. Many of those are set in the Northwest and it’s so fun to read about familiar spots! Or, if your mom is one for new reads, sign her up for Book of the Month and she’ll get a surprise in the mail each month.
Fast drying and lightweight, this hair dryer’s reviews are phenomenal. A true luxury item that will get frequent use. Plus, every time she looks in the mirror and sees her great hair, she’ll think of you!
For the plant-loving mama, why not choose an herb or two! These herb markers with their vintage flair will be the perfect touch to whatever you find! Or, consider one of these easy to care for plants with this modern ceramic planter set ($23).
For the fashion forward gal, surprise her with these trending tassel earrings. Such a gorgeous statement piece with a LBD. If these aren't her jewelry taste, consider something from Noonday Collection like the Crosshatch Cuff ($38). Made of hammered brass and suede, this bracelet is the perfect mix of soft and sturdy. Best of all, it's fair trade. I'm also obsessed with the Shattered Glass Ceiling Necklace ($68) from Uncommon Goods. If your mama is a mover and a shaker, this necklace will suite her well!
Nothing says “I love you” like chocolate! Choose Seattle-based Theo and their holiday pack of Peppermint Crunch, Nutcracker Brittle, Cranberry Orange, and Gingerbread Spice. Add tickets to the Nutcracker for a special mother/daughter or mother/son date if you’d like!
Swoon! These candles are high end, gorgeous, and available in a number of sizes and jar finishes. Your mama will never light another once she tries Capri Blue. Order online or stroll into Anthropologie to sample the perfect scent in person.
Choose your mama's hometown or the city she loves most, customize, and watch her smile as she hangs her new piece of meaningful art. I love so many of their designs!
