Sure, we're all spending more time at home these days. But there are still plenty of ways to get creative.
Many local companies making it easy to "Keep Calm and Create On!" through kits you can order or classes you can watch online (free or pay what you can).
1. Trophy Cupcakes: As if local bakery Trophy Cupcakes couldn't get any more delicious - they're providing some sweet relief to parents (and cupcake fans en masse) with their new Decorate Your Own Dozen Cupcake Kit. You get six of their unfrosted vanilla and six of their unfrosted chocolate cupcakes, a generous tub of Trophy's mouthwatering Madagascar vanilla buttercream, pastry bags, toppers (rainbows, hearts and unicorns) and three bags of their fun and colorful sprinkles (Yumfetti sprinkles, candy heart sprinkles and their fave pastel mix).
The price for the kit is $50. You can order it online and get it delivered to most zip codes in Seattle/Bellevue area OR pick it up at their Wallingford location from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Here's some more good news. Trophy is also offering home delivery of their non DIY cupcakes, macarons and layer cakes.
2. ELM Candle Bar: Here's a project that will really light up your day! ELM Candle Bar's Seattle location may be temporarily closed, but now you can experience the fun of making a custom candle at home.
From their FB page: "We’re all struggling with being stuck at home. While we’d love for you to experience the 'real deal' at our store... this might be the next best thing."
You can order their Custom Candle Kits through ELM's online shop and here's the fun part - you get to choose your own jars, lids and scents. ELM will handle the measurements and provide you with a fool proof experience. They are offering both 2-pack and 4-pack kits.
3. The Works Seattle: Located on Capitol Hill, The Works Seattle offers "seasonal classes in backyard food growing, artisanal cooking, and creative crafts." These days, we may not be able to go to class, but thanks to online options, the class can come to us! Their first foray - a class on Redesigning Your Grocery Store Bouquet. They promise to "Teach you how to transform that into something that looks professionally designed, along with how to help your flowers last longer and other tips and tricks from a pro." And in truly awesome 'The Works Seattle' style, it's a pay-what-you-can class on a sliding scale, from zero... up.
4. Salsa Con Todo: Always wanted to try dancing but haven't a chance yet? Love dancing but want to brush up on your skills? THIS IS YOUR TIME! Salsa Con Todo is a dance school located in Fremont. They offer great partner dancing instruction including Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Tango, Swing, and Kizomba dance styles.
Just because you can't do a dance class in person doesn't mean that you can't do it from the comfort of your own home. While the SCT building is physically closed right now you can catch a variety classes on their Facebook Page. They are also offering other options for taking one-on-one classes online with an instructor - and more.
