A trip to Spokane’s Riverfront Park always promises a lovely experience. And if you’re looking to amp up a road trip with a dash of childhood delight, make a pit stop at the gigantic Radio Flyer wagon. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)

Nestled between tall trees, a 1902 clock tower and the park's Centennial Trail, Spokane’s Riverfront Park is one of the most scenic urban, outdoor spots in Washington state. And much of its draw comes from an oversized child's toy. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)

According to the city of Spokane, the larger-than-life Radio Flyer wagon is dubbed “The Childhood Express.” Built in 1989 by artist Ken Spiering, the wagon has been creating joy for more than 30 years. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
A plaque near the waterfront sculpture indicates the piece was commissioned by the Junior League of Spokane for the centennial Celebration of Children. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
The sturdy wagon is said to weigh 26 tons, constructed of steel and lots of reinforced concrete. It's specifically designed to support the weight of kids and adults alike. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
Standing beside the more than 7-foot-tall wheels, the supersized wagon is tall enough to walk beneath, making any full-size adult feel like a character in Pixar's Toy Story. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
Climb up the steps on the back of the wagon to enter the cabin of the wagon. The structure is said to comfortably hold up to 300 children at a time. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
The handle is, of course, a shiny, inviting slide. It's frequented daily by happy children and child-at-heart grown-ups. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
In 2018, USA Today named Spokane’s iconic red wagon a must-stop detour spot on a 50-state road trip guide. (Rachael Jones / Seattle Refined)
Call it a competition. Spokane’s red wagon is no longer the world's largest Radio Flyer wagon. In 2017, Chicago’s Radio Flyer company rolled out a similar piece that stands 27-feet-long, 13-foot-wide, and 15,000 pounds. It currently holds the Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Wagon.
