Documenting Love: Madison & Brandon's Story

Note from Seattle Refined: We could not be more excited that photographer/blogger/genius Alexandra Celia has joined our team here at Seattle Refined. She has devoted her career to documenting love in its purest and most original form - which you'll see in her photos. Every now and then she will share her work with couples: their love story, their commitment, their passion....and of course, their photos. Think of her as our Love Guru. She loves love, and is here to share it with the rest of us. Next up, the story of Madison & Brandon - living and loving life as an engaged couple in Seattle.

Brandon
We met in Walla Walla, WA at college through my roommate Marc who started hanging out with Madison's best friend Abbey (and they are both married now). Abbey and Madison always hung out and were pretty inseparable. In the beginning, they started coming over to our house a lot and we just all started talking and getting know each other. We all went on a double date to the movies but our first date was at this little Mexican restaurant that Madison liked. I remember that she ordered water but the waiter gave her hot water which we thought was kind of weird and funny so it broke the tension. From what I remember we had a nice time and thought she was very pretty with her blonde platinum hair. Then after two or three weeks or so I asked her to be my girlfriend. I felt bad. I didn’t do anything romantic I just asked her in my room. I guess it felt like the right time to do it and lucky for me, she said yes.

Brandon and I were first aware of each other our freshman year in college at WWCC in Walla Walla. We had a speech class together, but we never spoke to each other. He was in the class with a few of his baseball buddies and they were a goofy group. I remember thinking this guy was just a little too confident. Brandon mentioned that he was from Las Vegas and I thought, ‘what the hell is he doing here in Walla Walla?’ We didn't actually speak to each other until the following year in school when my best friend, Abbey started hanging out with Brandon's teammate/roommate, Marc. I think the first time I saw him outside of school was at a party I went to with Abbey. He made an effort to talk to me but I was too focused on my game of guitar hero (nerd alert) and was not worried about talking to any guy whatsoever. Days after that, I went to the "baseball house" with Abbey and there he was again. I enjoyed Brandon's sense of humor and it probably helped that Abbey and Marc were also hitting it off because Abbey and I could simultaneously hang out while being with the guys as well. I don't remember much after that except that eventually we talked every single day and had a super fun sophomore year. It was so effortless and easy, just like our relationship is now.

I’m proud that Madison came with to live in Las Vegas with me. Also, that she has found something she enjoys doing and that is being a hairstylist. She’s worked really hard. If she didn’t join me in Vegas we wouldn’t be married and who knows where we would be so I’m thankful she chose me.

Madison
Brandon and I have been together since we were 20 years old (2010), so naturally we have grown up and matured together. I'm honestly just proud of the man he has become as a whole. When I decided to finally go to school in 2016 he stepped up and took care of me when it got hard for me to balance work with school. I couldn't have done it without him.

Brandon
I can’t remember the exact day I knew I cared for Madison. I guess it just turned into talking and caring for her every day and I always wanting to be with her. We had our ups and downs but when I wasn’t around her I felt empty. She makes me a better person when I’m with her. My future is bright as long as she is on my side.

It didn't take very long for Brandon and I to fall for each other and I think I knew pretty quickly that once we were done with school I wouldn't mind moving to Las Vegas to be with him. He brought me out to Vegas during our winter break and actually seeing this town in person helped me really picture myself living here with him and his family. I honestly don't think I ever second guessed that decision.

Brandon
I never really had a real full time relationship until Madison. Every other girl that I went on dates with were just flings. I wasn’t interested in them or they weren’t interested in me. Madison really made me work for it. I actually met her one time before we started really hanging out at a party. She was playing Guitar Hero when we got to the party and I tried to talk to her but she was blowing me off and not really keeping up with the conversation. I assumed she wasn’t interested in me at all. But I guess I must have made a good impression or my good looks just got her attention (haha).

My relationship with Brandon is just easy. I don't know why. I think some of my friends think I'm crazy when I tell them that Brandon and I rarely fight with each other. Sure, we bicker about things every day, who doesn't. But it's not anything that can't be laughed off moments later. We're honest with each other and we understand one another and it just works.

Madison’s blonde hair is something I have always loved since I met her. It makes her pop when she is in a room. She’s also very athletic which I like because I’ve played sports my whole life. We can have friendly competition and play sports with friends as well. Also, she puts friends and family’s needs before her own which makes her a very loving and caring person. I know she will always care for me whenever I need someone and will always be there for me.

I never know what's going to come out of Brandon's mouth but I do know that there's a 99 percent chance it's going to make me laugh. I admire so much about him. I'm attracted to Brandon's ability to really let loose and have fun and be the life of the party, even when I'm asleep at the same party on the couch (it happens more often than you'd think). He's 100 percent the extrovert in our relationship. It's fun and entertaining to watch him interact with people. Most of the time he's teasing them while talking himself up in some way, or betting on the fact that he'll beat them in a match up.

Brandon
I love that when Madison is leaving the house she always gives me a kiss whether I’m sleeping or just relaxing. It always makes me feel special. When we are out with friends and drinking and having fun she cares about everyone's safety and is therefore always the designated driver. She is all about my safety and always making sure that I am okay. I’m so thankful for her caring nature.

Over the course of our relationship we have shared so many common interests. One of our favorite things to do this time of year is to spend our Sundays watching football together. We're both super competitive and we play fantasy football so that adds some extra excitement to our Sundays as well. But it's so comforting to know that we can spend a day at home on the couch relaxing and doing nothing else. Secondly, Brandon's taught me to love Marvel movies and I love watching them with him. We can watch the same movies over and over and laugh at all the same lines. Last but not least, we are obsessed with our dogs enjoy taking them on walks and snuggling them and laughing at their little quirks. They are the light of our life and our spoiled little babies.

Brandon
Madison’s favorite ritual is getting coffee every day. I don’t particularly enjoy going through the drive thru with her because it’s time consuming but she loves it so as long as she drives I’ll allow it! We also love going out to eat. Grimaldi’s pizza is one of our favorite spots. We both enjoy going out to local bars if we want go somewhere and watch a football game or a baseball game but honestly, most of the time we just like to be at home with our two puppies Loki and Drax watching a TV show or movie because we love being lazy at home.

Madison
When it comes to difficult situations I think we understand each other's personalities and know that if one of us is going through a hard time we are there for each other even if it's not spoken about, just being around one another is comforting. I never have to guess if Brandon is mad or upset with me because he will tell me right away. It's honestly refreshing because it's straight to the point and we face it and get past it as quick as it happens. I truly respect that aspect of his personality because it's so much better than bottling up any emotion and hiding it away. He has actually helped me be more honest and upfront as well not only in our relationship but in others when it is needed.
