Zippia analyzed cities based on a few factors to compile a list of the top ten happiest cities in the United States. Here's the rubric, if you will:

  • Being well educated – They rated the population with at least bachelor degrees
  • Having a job - As measured by the unemployment rate
  • A short commute to work – Because traffic is T H E worst
  • Low cost of living
  • Having a family (Getting - and here’s the tricky part - staying married)
  • Owning a home
  • Poverty rate

So here’s the list of the top 10:

  2. Overland Park, KS
  3. Cedar Rapids, IA
  4. Sioux Falls, SD
  5. Bellevue, WA
  6. Cary, NC
  7. Gilbert, AZ
  8. Virginia Beach, VA
  9. Chesapeake, VA
  10. Frisco, TX

And the rest is history. According to zippia.com, Bellevue is more family-friendly and the “upscale” sister of Seattle. Also, about 93 percent of Bellevue residents are insured, married, and employed.
