And now for your daily "aww" factor: U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Deano Miller of Tacoma was reunited with his miliary dog and friend Thor today at SeaTac airport, after being apart for four years.
Thor, a 7-year-old yellow Labrador, and Sgt. Miller trained together in Virginia on explosive detection, and were then deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.
When Sgt. Miller returned home to Tacoma, Thor was still needed overseas.
"When I had to put Thor in his kennel, it was the first and only time he refused to listen to me," Sgt. Miller said of the day he left Thor to return home from Afghanistan. "I felt like someone took a hammer to my heart; it was like I was abandoning my best friend and he couldn't understand why."
Both hearts healed today as they were reunited (thanks to the American Humane Association and Mission K9 Rescue) at SeaTac airport (check the gallery for the #aww moment).
And the story gets even better - Sgt. Miller is formally adopting Thor so the two best buds never have to be apart again!
Thor and his fellow military working dogs save approximately 150 to 200 military service member lives in their careers.
