As we go through our day-to-day lives - it's easy to forget that Seattle is a hot tourist destination!
Visit Seattle just released statistics showing record visitors volume - oh you know, just a slight 39.9 million.
I can't make this up folks, 39.9 million humans came to Seattle in 2017, a number that is up 2.6 percent from 2016. In fact, this is the 8th consecutive year that tourism has spiked upwards.
And these visitors? They brought their wallets! Tourists spent $7.4 billion in King County, which is a 5.6 percent increase from the previous year. This means that Seattle tourism generated an estimated $10.7 billion in total economic impact.
Here's some other interesting factoids for ya about our tourists:
- International visitors account for 7.1 percent of Seattle's total visitor volume, but represent 16.3 percent of total visitor spending because they stay longer than domestic travelers.
- SeaTac International Airport is ranked ninth in the U.S. by passenger volume with 46.9 million travelers.
- Downtown Seattle hotel room demand continues to outpace supply, growing by 4.4 percent in 2017 while supply only grew by 3.5 percent.
- Seattle continues to turn away more convention business than it can book due to date availability at the Washington State Convention Center.
