Seattle might be notorious for niche coffee shops and scenic waterways, but locals know it's also home to an array of people who love to create. This city is chock-full of artists who we love to feature weekly on Seattle Refined! If you have a local artist in mind that you would like to see featured, let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you're wondering just what constitutes art, that's the beauty of it; it's up to you!

Tell us about the artistic process and the different stages that work into it.
As an artist you have to be able to understand with goals come steps. You can only be doing one thing at time to achieve that goal. There are so many that come with being an independent artist. The artistic process for me is experiencing life and it’s ups or downs and letting out in my craft. As far as the past, that is a big thing that has shaped who I am today.
Where does your inspiration come from? What other musical artists do you take inspo from?
My inspiration comes from old-school R&B ,hip-hop, soul music, Oromo music and Somali music. Artist like Mario, Ne-Yo, Usher, Omarion, J. Holiday, etc.
What kind of genre is your music? What kinds of things do you write about?
There’s no specific genre. I believe at this stage in my life as an artist I can create any kind of genre of music it’s just whatever I’m feeling. I write about love, being yourself.
Do you have one song that means more to you or is extremely special to you?
‘HERB N’ LUV’.
What experiences in your life have shaped your music/art?
The residency shaped me as an artist tremendously. It taught me crucial things about having an open mind for everyone’s art that they put out into the world.
If we want to see more of your work where should we go to find? What about upcoming shows?
You can find me by looking up NESTRA! My music is on all platforms for you all to enjoy, so please check me out! I will also be releasing some more show dates in the upcoming months.
What is next for you? Anything you’re working on right now that you’re really excited about?
I just released probably the best project I’ve ever made, “Texture.” It has been a year since my last project and with this one I wanted to really innovate my sound and push my limits! I have been spending lots of hours in the studio, and there are a few singles and collaborations that will be coming out this fall/winter that I’m excited about (I always have stuff in the vault). Other than that, my team and I are working on booking shows to close out the year as well as put out a new line of merch, the “Free Your Heart” series! This has been my motto for the year and even more than that, it’s a way of life my team and I have been living.
Lastly, how do you take your coffee? We ask everyone!
With milk and sugar! But if you really want to know, I’m a tea guy! I love me some chai.
