We're obsessed with the secret ingredient in these holiday cocktails

‘Tis the season for holiday parties and stuffing yourself silly. But, every gathering has at least one dish or drink that doesn’t look or smell very delicious (we’re looking at you, fruitcake).

Luckily for your taste buds, we partnered with the Dairy Farmers of Washington and Scott Rixe, manager and beverage director at Cortina, to bring you three festive holiday cocktails that are sure tickle everyone’s fancy.

Each one of these drinks features fresh, locally-sourced dairy products, creating a creamy, refreshing cocktail that’s a tad unexpected, yet highly nutritious and delicious. So, drink up and wear that milk mustache with pride this holiday season.

Holiday Nog

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 oz spiced rum
  • 1/2 oz vanilla liquor
  • 1/2 oz Allspice Dram
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 oz heavy Darigold whipping cream

Garnish:

  • Whole nutmeg
  • Sprig of rosemary

To make the cocktail:

1.In a cocktail shaker, combine all of the ingredients.

2.Once ingredients are combined, add medium-sized ice cubes. Close the shaking tin tightly, and shake vigorously to dilute and mix the ingredients.

3.Open shaker and use a standard cocktail strainer to hold back the ice, pour through a small mesh strainer to remove small ice chips caused by shaking.

4.Pour this cocktail directly into a fancy coupe.

To finish the drink:

1.Use a microplane to grate nutmeg over the top of the drink.

2.Torch a small sprig of rosemary and place on the edge of the glass.

Irish Coffee Tini

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Tony’s Cold Brew Coffee by Smith Brothers
  • 1 oz Amaro
  • 1 oz Irish whiskey
  • 1/4 oz simple syrup (one part water and one part sugar)

Garnish:

  • Whipped cream (keep reading for the recipe!)
  • Freshly grated cinnamon

How to make the cocktail:

COLD:

1.In a cocktail shaker combine all of the ingredients.

2.Once ingredients are combined, add medium-sized ice cubes. Close the shaking tin tightly and shake vigorously to dilute and mix the ingredients.

3.Open shaker and use a standard cocktail strainer to hold back the ice, pour through a small mesh strainer to remove small ice chips caused by shaking.

4.Pour directly into a chilled martini glass and top with whipped cream and cinnamon.

HOT:

1.Use the same ingredients as the cold drink, but substitute the cold brew coffee for freshly-made hot coffee.

2.Add Irish whiskey, Amaro, and simple syrup into a glass coffee cup and top off with hot coffee.

Whipped Cream

  • 3/4 oz confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1 1/2 oz Darigold heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 oz Irish whiskey

How to make in a shaker:

1.In a shaker combine all of the ingredients.

2.Once ingredients are in shaker add a blender spring from a protein shake bottle or the spring from the strainer. Close the shaker tin tightly.

3.Shake vigorously until the cream becomes solid.

4.Use a spoon to top off the martini or coffee cup with a heavy dollop of the whipped cream, and use a microplane to grate whole cinnamon sticks over the top.

Il Ragazzo

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 oz coffee liquor
  • 1/2 oz Fernet Branca Menta
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 oz Darigold half-and-half

Garnish:

  • Fresh mint

How to make the cocktail:

1.Fill a large bucket glass with ice.

2.Pour in coffee liquor, then the Fernet Menta, then the vodka, and then top with half-and-half.

3.Stir and garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
