The 5 Best Dive Bars for Dawgs

Note: These are the best divey bars in the U-District, because....duh. That's where most of the Dawgs are. If you have a non-University District bar that Dawgs frequent, email us and we'll add it!

Undoubtedly, the Univerity District is one of Seattle's crown neighborhoods when it comes to dive bars. This is excellent for the strapped-for-cash college students and pretty much anyone that just loves the laid back vibe of a great biker/college/free-peanut-totin' bar. Next time you find yourself in the U-District, be sure to hit any of the following dive bars for some good old fashioned fun.

Blue Moon Tavern
Fun fact: did you know that when the Blue Moon opened in 1934, state law dictated it had to be a mile away from campus? There was certainly no distraction of the sudsy variety for the young scholars of the early years. A former haunt of the beatniks, the Blue Moon is the perfect place to chow down on a handful of bar peanuts and sip on an ice cold local draft. Check out the bar's calendar for all kinds of entertainment ranging from live music to stand up.

Earl's
Just around the corner from The Neptune, this extra dive-y UW favorite is a good one if you're trying to get rowdy... or just stay close to the show. Touting 15 different kinds of chicken wings and a drink called the Purple Rain (basically the bar's own special version of a Long Island iced tea), this grimy spot has all the making of a fun Saturday night out.

Monkey Pub
Cheap stiff drinks, a jukebox, and karaoke - what more could you ask for of a dive bar? Located right off Roosevelt, this no-frills hole in the wall is a great spot to split a pitcher with friends... especially if you're ready for a change of pace from a decidedly less laid back environment.

College Inn Pub
This basement bar has a pool, darts and a killer trivia night. Located toward the far end of the ave, College Inn Pub has a solid selection of rotating drafts and an awesome happy hour. From 3 - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, you can get $4 wells and if you drop by on Sunday you can enjoy free pool and all day happy hour.

Cafe Racer
Alright, so Racer is on the outskirts of the U-District/Ravenna, but this old standby is too dang great not to put on this list. The quirky and lovable dive has its very own OBAMA or official bad art museum, as well as pickled eggs and oh yeah - beer, lots of it. Because of recent construction in the area, Racer has been put into a bit of a financial pickle, so go on in and enjoy a beer or three and support this local business. If you're interested in helping out Racer through their dire straits, you can do so here.
