I hope you have your stretchy pants picked out to wear because next week is Thanksgiving and the gluttony will wash over you. I, for one, welcome this gustatory challenge and I imagine you do too. When thinking about the dishes at the Thanksgiving table, turkey is at the forefront. Some sort of combination of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts, green bean casserole, gravy, and dressing are likely to be served. But for those that love the savory side of Thanksgiving, just as many love the sweet side. For those in that camp, this is for you.
In the Seattle-area, there are a number of bakeries, cafes, and restaurants that are serving up their takes on Thanksgiving dessert. Pumpkin Pie is the standard bearer and you can try these artisanal takes on it, but there are a number of other enticing desserts that should be added to your consideration set. Here they are for your sweet tooth craving pleasure.
A la Mode Pie
Having recently opened their second café in West Seattle (along with their Phinney café), A la Mode Pie is taking pickup orders for Thanksgiving. In addition to their Holiday Pumpkin, they’ll also offer a few other flavors of pie like Chocolate-Caramel Pecan Tart and Marionberry Hazelnut. Pickup will be on Wednesday 11/23 and Thanksgiving Day until 3pm. Between the two cafes, A la Mode Pie is estimating that more than 3,000 of their pies will be ordered this holiday and they are now accepting Thanksgiving pre-orders.
The newly opened Café Trophy in Bellevue will be offering a few twists on Thanksgiving sweets with pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin macarons, and a pumpkin celebration cake. Order these sweets to serve up at your Thanksgiving table as they’ll be available at all Trophy Cupcake locations and Café Trophy in The Bravern.
Greenwood’s Coyle’s Bakeshop has an entire Thanksgiving Menu planned, any of which, from the looks of it, would be absolutely welcomed at any feast. In addition to their Winter Luxury Pumpkin Pie, they’ll also have Pecan Pie with Bourbon & Dark Chocolate, an Apple Galette, Cranberry & Cornmeal Upside Down Cake, and a Flourless Brownie on their dessert specials. Coyle and team will also have rolls, scones, pie shells, and a few other things available to order. Get your order in by Saturday, November 19, to have ready for your Thanksgiving.
With locations throughout the area, Cupcake Royale has two seasonal cupcakes available for a sugar rush. The Pumpkin Pie cupcake features fresh pumpkin puree, graham cracker crust, and whipped cream cheese frosting. The Chai Cinnamon cupcake tops the vanilla cake with chai buttercream and finished with crumbled snickerdoodles. Get yours through the end of the month.
Downtown’s Dahlia Bakery is accepting orders for their Thanksgiving menu that is led by their Honeynut Pumpkin Pie and their much lauded Triple Coconut Cream Pie. They’ll also have their breads and other baked goods available to order. Check out their holiday menu and start your planning stat.
Salt & Iron
Edmonds’ Salt & Iron will be doing a small batch of pre-ordered pies for pick up on Wednesday 11/23. They’re eschewing a traditional pumpkin pie and are going with this triumvirate; Sweet Potato Panna Cotta Pie, Apple Cranberry Pie, and Chocolate-Caramel Pecan Pie. All pies are available for pre-order and the deadline to do so is Friday, November 18. Call or stop by the restaurant pronto to place your order. And grab a burger while doing so.
Volunteer Park Café
Located on the east slope of Capitol Hill, Volunteer Park Café is ready for your Thanksgiving order. They’re offering an organic pumpkin pie, organic apple pie, and chocolate pecan pies. Volunteer Park Café is also serving up toasted pumpkin pecan baby cakes for the holiday. Orders are to be placed by Thursday, November 17, with pickup on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Visit or call to get your order in the queue.
