From MasterChef Jr. to Taste of Tacoma: 13-year-old star chef is one to watch

"I want to be a chef. It's been my dream since I was a little toddler. I also want to be a food critic. I want to travel the world and experience different cuisines and different cultures. I think it would be really fun."

13-year-old Sadie Davis-Suskind might be young, but cooking is old-hat for her. Sadie's playpen has always been the kitchen.

"I was cooking before I was talking, walking, well about at the same time," said Sadie with a laugh.

"As soon as I got into the kitchen, instantly I'd be all over everything in sight, including fresh produce, spices, different proteins. I would start creating what my three-year-old self thought were culinary masterpieces. They probably weren't very edible, but I thought I was an amazing chef. It was definitely those experiences that fueled my love of cooking."

With the help of her mom, who studied the art of cuisine in France, Sadie's passion for cooking started early, and soon others took notice of her talent. She was a semi-finalist on the hit show MasterChef Junior, hosted by renowned chef Gordon Ramsey, who can be a bit intimidating.

"He's scary, but he's also really nice. He's such a talented chef. I admire him and look up to him so much."

Sadie will be in the spotlight again this weekend at the annual Taste of Tacoma. It's the "Ultimate Summer Get Together" with more than 200 food and specialty vendors, live bands and entertainment, cooking demos and chef cook-off battles, craft beer and wine tasting, an outdoor beer garden and more. Taste of Tacoma runs from Friday-Sunday at Point Defiance Park. The best part, admission is free!

Sadie is one of the chefs showcasing her skills on The Taste Cooks! stage. Her cooking demo is Friday, June 21st at 1:45 pm.

"I want to show the world that kids can cook too. It's not just adults, professionals who have been cooking for years and years and have loads of experience. It's about flavor, love, passion and dedication, which kids can have too."
