Next time you're driving by the Ballard Bridge, do yourself a favor and stop by Mean Sandwich. In our humble opinion, it's one of the coolest new restaurants in Seattle.
Husband and wife team Kevin and Alex Pemoulie own the shop, but the road to Seattle wasn't easy.
They recently moved here after closing their fine-dining restaurant in Jersey City, which got rave reviews, but just didn't click with customers.
"We were critically acclaimed. We were constantly getting good press, but we had empty nights in the restaurant," said Kevin. "If it's just the critics liking us, then what are we doing? What's the point here?"
The couple lost sight of what they had intended to do, which was to be a neighborhood restaurant.
Since Alex was originally from Seattle, the couple decided to take a chance and move back to the Emerald City.
"My family is here, I'm from here and when we were taking stock of our lives, Seattle was calling our name!" she said.
And ooooohhhheeeee are we glad they answered the call! Mean Sandwich has killer food (special shoutout to the potatoes), chill atmosphere, awesome outdoor seating and it's VERY family-friendly. They even have a kid's menu and playhouse!
When it comes to a "neighborhood" spot, Kevin and Alex hit it out of the park. In fact, Seattle may have needed them as much as they needed us. Welcome to the neighborhood Mean Sandwich!
