Open & Shut: This week in restaurant openings and closings


SODO Brewing. The head brewers of Schooner Exact Brewing and Belltown Brewing are creating a limit-series, draft only, craft brewery called SODO Brewing! The series will be released early this year and the initial offering will include two IPA's, a lager, and a stout. The beers will be produced at Schooner's and will be self-distributed to Seattle bars and restaurants.

The Saint Social Club. The Saint just opened up last month on Capitol Hill and is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The cocktail menu features all kinds of drinks with plenty of tequila and mezcal beverages.

Dolar Shop. This hot pot place is opening up in Bellevue's The Shops at the Bravern in Spring 2018, reports downtown Bellevue. Dolar Shop is a cook-at-the-table kind of place with a variety of broths with open buffet foods like shrimp, lamb, beef, noodles, vegetables, and lots of sauces.

Evergreens. Everyone knows and loves a good ole salad from Evergreen! They just opened up their first east side location in Bellevue said the Bellevue Reporter.

The Habit Burger Grill. This burger joint is opening its first location in Pierce County! Prior to it's opening on February 14, The Habit will host "Free Burger Days" where the first 200 guests will receive a free burger, fries, and drink. Dreams really do come true. Free Burger Days will start on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and then again at 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. On the following Sunday, February 11, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Floret. Floret is a spin-off from Seattle's Cafe Flora, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant. Floret will be opening up in the Sea-Tac airport, so vegetarian and vegan jet-setters have lots of options. There will be grab-and-go options as well as an expansive sit-down dining room, reports Eater. Floret is open now!

Waffle Stop. This Tacoma restaurant is officially open in the Proctor District in Tacoma, reports Eater. The Waffle Stop is open daily for breakfast and lunch and the menu includes both sweet and savory options. Think - bacon cookie butter waffle. YUM.

Gyu-Kaku. This Japanese style Korean BBQ restaurant just had their "soft open," and are only taking a limited number of reservations. The restaurant is an international chain but just opened in Bellevue, reports Eater. The menu specializes in "yakinuku" which is a Japanese style of Korean BBQ. Signature dishes include dry-aged and miso-brushed beef.

Cafe An'Clair. This cafe has replaced the Eltana bagel shop in the Amazon Apollo building, reports Eater. They serve coffee, espresso, breakfast sandwiches and other sandwich options.

Devil's Reef. Devil's Reef just opened in Tacoma and has a nautical and tropical vibe with a lot of rum, reports Eater. Along with the cocktails, the menu includes Asian-inspired dishes like spring rolls, bao, rice bowls, Korean-style short ribs and more.

Westman's Bagels. The walk up window in Capitol Hill announced that it will be soon serving up bagels and spreads and it will all start at 7 a.m. everyday, reports Eater. Breakfast bagels, anyone?!

Cafe Mia. Cafe Mia just opened up in West Seattle where the old Fiddlehead Fine Foods closed in November. Menu items include wine, craft beer, local coffee, organic juice, smoothies, and a brunch centric menu, says The Stranger.

Department Bento. Tommy Douglas is moving over to the Eastside opening up Department Bento in Bellevue! Department Bento will be located in the Nordstrom in Bellevue square and will serve customizable bento boxes. The bento place is slated to open in early March, according Eater.

Sano Cafe. Lisa Nordstrom is opening Sano Cafe this month on Mercer Island, occupying the old Roberto's space. The menu includes breakfast and lunch and will feature salads, acai bowls, toasts, fresh juices, smoothies, and espresso drinks, according to the Mercer Island reporter.

Le Messe. Brian Clevenger just opened his latest restaurant in the Eastlake neighborhood! Le Messe is a full service restaurant and bar features with pastas, local veggies, and a variety of seafood dishes.

Board Track Racer Tasting Room. Mark McNeilly is opening up a new tasting room in Woodinville that will be dedicated to Mark Ryan Winery's sister project, Board Track Racer Cellars. The tasting room will open its doors Saturday, February 24 at 12 p.m. Current Board Track Racer wines include The Vincent Red, The Vincent White, The Chief, and The Shift.

Two Bells Tavern. This bar and grill just closed its doors after serving the Belltown community for over 70 years. The property was sold to a developer, reports

Tully's Coffee. Local coffee chain Tully's has been struggling for a couple years after being purchased by Global Baristas and now has had three shut down in the past couple months. Locations include 19th Avenue East, East Aloha Street on Capitol Hill, 2003 Western Ave. near Pike Place Market, and Two Union Square in the central business district, reports the Seattle Times.

Bakeman's Restaurant. The Seattle classic shut down it's doors on December 22, 2017. Bakeman's was known for their turkey sandwiches and cafeteria-style lunches, said Eater. The restaurant was opened in 1970 and is retiring with it's owner.

Skillet Ballard. Yes it sounds like a repeat after the flood that shut down the location for a few months, but this time Skillet is closing their doors for good. They have struggled financially for a while and finally decided to shut it down. Skillet Captiol Hill and the Regrade are going strong though, so never fear!
