Super Bueno comes to Wallingford!

Angela and Ethan Stowell have done it again. Banking on their success with Frelard Pizza Company, Super Bueno is the duo’s latest family-friendly restaurant concept serving Mexican food with a play space for kids, a hip bar/restaurant at night and a casual cafe concept during the day.

By day, Super Bueno is a cafe serving espresso, fresh squeezed orange juice (the OJ machine is pure entertainment for little ones) alongside breakfast burritos, egg sandwiches with lunch portions of pozole rojo for the more refined palate and grilled cheese for the younger set. After 4 p.m., the cafe turns into a restaurant with nachos, tacos (the hard shell Mom tacos deliciously inauthentic), frothy frozen concoctions and lots of guacamole. Chef Rudolfo Martinez hails from Texas where he worked at Qui in Austin and launched the popular food truck, Tapa Tapa, in San Antonio.

The 4,000 square foot space along Wallingford’s Stone Way provides table seating for up to 26 in the mezzanine level along with a large gated kid’s play area. There is also seating for 20 outside on the patio with counter seating and a lounge area near the cafe and lots of seating in the main dining area, along with a private space for up to 30 guests. Designed by Atelier Drome, Super Bueno is large. The high ceilings show off the whitewashed white oak slats, big windows and a custom tropical mural alongside bright pops of color everywhere in the restaurant.

Super Bueno’s menu features Chicharrones alongside chilled watermelon with mint, guajillo salt and pop rocks. The tacos come three per order and the cochinita pibil with pickled red onion and cilantro is not to be missed. Finish off with horchata ice cream and corn shortbread or churros with caramel-tamarind dipping sauce. You may not find authentic Mexican food at Super Bueno but that isn’t the point. You will find cheesy quesadillas and seven types of tacos along with warm chips and generous portions of salsa, guacamole and bean dip. Super Bueno is a place to fill up while enjoying the company of family and friends and a nice frothy beverage.

Head in early for the daily happy hour menu from 4-6 p.m. which offers a smaller version of the main menu with lower prices. Super Bueno’s bar offers over 65 Tequilas and Mezcals along with a slushy machine for frozen margaritas and more.

The upstairs kid area is coveted by parents looking to enjoy a Super Bueno Margarita which offers a choice of Cucumber, Red Jalapeno, Watermelon, or Mezcal, while their kids throughly enjoy the large play area packed full of Magna-Tiles, a play house, dress up clothing and hats.

Super Bueno’s cafe is open daily from 7am to 4pm before switching over to a full service restaurant at 4 pm, Monday through Friday with weekend lunch starting at 11 am. Super Bueno is located at 3627 Stone Way N rounding out the block which features Manolin and Art of the Table.
