'Fine dining is not what Seattle needs now': Canlis closes, opens to-go options instead

Canlis, widely considered Seattle's most iconic restaurant, announced today that it is closing its fine-dining restaurant and opening three in its place: a breakfast bagel shed, a burger drive-thru for lunch, and a family meal dinner delivery service.

Co-owners Brian and Mark Canlis announced the news on social media Thursday morning, March 12.

"Time's are changing and so are we. For now," reads the post. "We're shutting down our dining room and bringing the food out to you."

The restaurant opened in 1950, and regularly wins local, national and international awards for its food, bar program, and hospitality.

"This is one idea for safely creating jobs for our employees while serving as much of the city as we can," reads the restaurant's website.
