Over the river and through the woods, to Stanwood you need to go!
Because, there, you will find The Cookie Mill. And, as a self-processed cookie aficionado these cookies are well worth an afternoon drive.
Before my family and I moved to Snohomish County, I had honestly never heard of Stanwood. It’s a small town of 7,000 located 50 miles north of Seattle, at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River near Camano Island. Stanwood beckons those who long for both a country and coastal life while still offering quick access to I-5 and the larger cities the highway leads to. Truly, you could plan a whole weekend outing to the Stanwood/Camano Island area - there is so much to do, see, and taste! The parks and beaches are tranquil and you’ll be remiss to meet a more pleasant gathering of folks. Stanwood is all smiles.
Well, smiles and delicious cookies! That’s what they’re serving at The Cookie Mill these days so when you come, plan to smile in return and enjoy one, or two, or three of their top notch varieties.
With a 30 year history, The Cookie Mill has obviously learned how to bake a truly amazing, homemade cookie. They’re big. They’re thick and chewy. They’re not too sweet, but still an oh-so-perfect treat. And, the seasonal flavors are always a wonderful surprise. This last year, spring brought a Cherry Doodle and summer, a Lavender Doodle - both delicious spins on the classic Snicker Doodle. Recently we sampled both a Campfire Cookie and an Orange Doodle - as part of the early fall line up, and I just know their winter offerings will be swoon worthy.
The Cookie Mill’s year-round line up cookies include:
- Chocolate Chip
- Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
- Mocha Walnut
- Snicker Doodle
- Lemon Doodle
- Oatmeal Raisin
- Frosted Molasses
- Oatmeal M&M
- Gluten Free Peanut Butter
If you guessed that my family has tried them all, you’d guess right! The Lemon Doodle is a family favorite. We always snag one of those! And my kids are crazy about the Oatmeal M&M and Frosted Molasses. We’ve also fallen in love with cinnamon rolls, pesto cream cheese bagels, scones, and The Cookie Mill’s fresh-made sandwiches. Definitely add the Snowbird Nester - a turkey cranberry combo; the Mallard Feast - think tropical chicken salad; and the Weekend Gardener - all the goodness of a country garden rolled into one sandwich; to your foodie bucket list - these sandwiches are all a hearty combination of delicious ingredients that will fill you to the brim.
