There are actually two holidays that involve eating pie. The first is National Pie Day in January and National Pi Day on 3/14. But when there is free pie involved - why limit ourselves to just one day of celebration? For March 14th we celebrate the mathematical constant 3.14 and since we are celebrating math as much as we are celebrating eating pie we can stray a bit from the traditional idea of pie. With that here are a few places around Seattle to grab pies whether you want sweet or savory, traditional or not, we’re giving you a few options.
What would a celebration of Pi be without starting with a slice of a classic but with a bit of a twist? The slice of the Spiced Apple Pie from A La Mode is chock full of perfectly cooked apples and the spice can only be described as Thanksgiving in dessert form. The warmth of the nutmeg and cinnamon gives that warm you by the fire goodness and gives this traditional apple pie to a new level.
Pie sells grab-and-go, personal-sized pies, freshly made daily, of basically any flavor sweet or savory you could want. We couldn’t decide between the Nutella Cream and the Lemon Raspberry Custard and you can’t go wrong with either. Chocolate Hazelnut lovers will be won over by the crispy buttery pie crust stuffed with Nutella and the Lemon Raspberry Custard in a light and refreshing pie perfect for these upcoming spring days.
The uber-popular Dahlia Bakery is a go-to for any cake and pastry lover. But, it's their Triple Coconut Cream Pie that is I literal dream in pie form, and it's no wonder it has been called everything from legendary to world famous. Even though one slice can be easily shared, though why would you want to, the triple coconut consists of a coconut crust, shredded coconut, and toasted coconut that is sure to fulfill the wish of all coconut lovers. Those who are coconut wary can opt for the bite-sized option to test the waters but this pie is not to be missed.
There is a multitude of pizza places to choose from around Seattle serving up everything from deep dish to New York style. But a slice of New York Style pizza from Big Marios is a no-brainer. Not only can you grab this pizza at pretty much any time of day but, you have enough options to keep you satisfied whether you're popping out for a quick pepperoni at lunch or grabbing one their more unique options as a late slice to celebrate Pi Day.
Lastly, we went with another savory option and that is the Shepherds Pie at Premier Meat Pies. The classic UK pie is hearty and with a flaky buttery crust filled with beef and veg and then top it all with mashed potatoes making this the ultimate meat and potatoes comfort food.
