Chances are you've peeped a couple instances of activated charcoal-based food and drink out in the wild (or Instagram) this year. There are a bevy of alleged health benefits to eating activated charcoal, least of which include detoxifying your digestive tract, whitening teeth and helping prevent hangovers. You can't help but be fascinated by its slate color, but how about the taste?

Activated charcoal is all the rage right now. Here are five spots doing right by the black stuff.

Hong Kong Style Charcoal Waffles at Stateside

One of Stateside's more popular breakfast options, these peculiar looking waffles boast activated charcoal - quite the trend in chef Eric Johnson's former home of Hong Kong, as seen in bread, fro-yo and more. Stateside's charcoal waffles are served alongside coconut-pandan syrup, mango jam and shaved almond. You can add coconut-pandan ice cream for two bucks more. Salty Caramel Ash at Frankie and Jos

Capitol Hill darling Frankie and Jos slings an alarmingly delicious salty caramel ash ice cream made with made with sprouted cashew milk, coconut milk, cane sugar, coconut oil, cocoa butter, activated charcoal, sea salt and vanilla extract. This fully organic and super photogenic affair will most certainly have you coming back for more. To top it all off, Frankie and Jo's can even scoop you up into a gluten-free maple vanilla waffle cone.

Charcoal Lemonade at Healthy Bonez

If you're on the east side and looking to try out activated charcoal, this Kirkland juicery has you covered with its unique spin on a beloved classic. Made with apple, lemon and activated charcoal; will get you back in fighting form after a night of imbibing. 100 percent raw cold pressed juice at its finest, you can by this stuff by the bottle or by the growler (64oz).

Black and White at Alchemy

The Black and White is made with activated charcoal-infused Bombay Sapphire gin, lime, mint, cucumber bitters and egg white. If this isn't a truly magical combination, we don't now what is. The goth-y drink pairs excellently with a dark lip, enjoy y'all.
